Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta is associated with what is called "the afterbirth."  Almost all mammals consume their afterbirth following delivery.  Human mothers have also practiced various ways of consuming their placenta in cultures around the world since ancient times.  Some ways consuming placenta may help include energy, healing, prolonged or increased milk production, hormonal balancing and body heat.

Preparation Methods

  • Steamed Method- In the process of labor and birth leaves the mother cold, and deficient of blood and body fluids. One major way we can promote healing during the postpartum period is to return the energy via heat. That’s why steam is incorporated and warming herbs, leading to the warming, tonifying and nourishing for the postpartum mama.

  • Raw Method- The concept behind the raw is that more of the essence of the placenta is preserved as the steaming process can lessen vital hormones. This process skips the heating and herbal process all together prior to dehydration. The dehydration temperature is set to 160 degrees F. In the case of placenta, some argue that the Raw method also yields a medicine with more hormones and nutrients than the TCM method.
